Municipal election 2026 A New Politics Starts from the Ground Up
A European Perspective. Local Solutions.
Our ambition is for Slovak cities and municipalities to rank among Europe's best by 2040 in terms of quality of life, digital public services, climate resilience, and citizen participation.
Our local and regional programme takes scientific evidence and European commitments seriously, translating them into practical actions that regions, cities, and municipalities can implement – even when national politics is slow to act.
Programme Highlights:
1. Local Government as the First Level of the State
Decisions should be made as close to people as possible. We want stronger municipalities, cities, and regions with clear responsibilities, adequate funding, and genuine accountability for the public services that shape everyday life.
2. Your Region, City and Municipality in Your Pocket
Public administration should be simple, fast, and digital. Less paperwork, shorter waiting times, and more services available online – supported by open data and transparent local government.
3. A Great Place to Live
We are building cities and municipalities where people can live, travel, and spend their free time comfortably. Affordable housing, clean energy, high-quality public transport, greener neighbourhoods, and climate resilience are the foundations of a better quality of life for everyone.
4. Local Economy 2.0
The future of our regions lies not in cheap labour, but in talent, innovation, and modern entrepreneurship. We will support local businesses, new technologies, and stronger cooperation between schools, businesses, and local governments.
5. Health and Care
High-quality care should be available close to home. We will strengthen community-based health and social services, preventive care, support for older people, and healthier environments for children and young people.
6. Education, Talent, and Opportunities at Home
Every region should be a place where people want to study, work, and build their future. Investing in schools, teachers, lifelong learning, and opportunities for young people will help stop the brain drain from Slovakia.
7. Radical Transparency and a Living Democracy
Democracy does not begin and end with elections. We want open local government, accessible information, participatory budgeting, and meaningful citizen involvement in shaping the future of their city or municipality.
What is Volt?
Volt is the first and only pan-European political party. Today, we have more than 35,000 active members across the continent, and over 250 of our candidates have been elected to public office in eight EU countries at every level of government, including municipalities, cities, regions, national parliaments, and the European Parliament. Millions of Europeans have cast their vote for a Volt candidate.
Volt Slovakia was officially registered with the Slovak Ministry of the Interior in February 2024. In June 2024, we presented our first slate of ten candidates in the elections to the European Parliament.
