Less than a year after the start of activity, on February 3, 2024, the founding General Assembly of the Volt Slovakia party will take place in Bratislava. In addition to the leadership election, candidates for the European Parliament will also be elected and representatives of Volt Europa will speak.

BRATISLAVA, January 30, 2024 – On Saturday, February 3, 2024, the founding General Assembly of Volt Slovakia - the Slovak branch of the pan-European party Volt Europa - will take place in Bratislava. Volt is represented in 30 European countries and will also be operating in Slovakia from 2023. Volt Europa co-president Francesca Romana D'Antuono and other Volt representatives from partner countries will also speak at the gathering.

The General Assembly has several fundamental objectives. The rapidly growing membership base will elect leading representatives to the positions of chairpersons, who are the founders of the party and current members of its leadership, Lucia Kleštincová and Rick Zedník. At the same time, the election of the list of candidates for the upcoming elections to the European Parliament will be held in June this year. Finally, the public has the opportunity to get to know the representatives of the movement at an informal meeting in Bratislava.

"Slovakia needs a radically new quality of politics based on expertise, openness and humanity. Our policy has absolutely failed in its ability to be a platform for value leadership of European caliber. We are determined to help bring Europe to Slovakia in a way that previous political representations have not been able to do. We can also do this thanks to the cooperation with foreign branches of our movement, which cares about Slovakia being heard in Brussels," says co-president and leading candidate of the party, Lucia Kleštincová. After a career in the European Commission, she is dedicated to the modernization of European policies, public administration and career coaching with a focus on female leadership.

According to party co-chairman Rick Zedník, the experience from other countries is proof that Volt is a proven and desirable concept that can bring urgently needed change to the Slovak political scene. "In 2024, 20 years will pass since Slovakia's membership in the European Union. An entire generation of Slovenians who consider themselves Europeans are demanding a modern and open political leadership. For them, the national parliament, which is made up of four-fifths of men, does not represent the reality where the majority of the population is made up of women. It is unusual for a political party that the majority of members of Volt Slovakia are women," says Zedník, one of the co-founders of the English-language Slovak weekly The Slovak Spectator, who was the CEO of the independent European political news network Euractiv in Brussels.

About Volt Europa Only a Europe that acts united can deal with common challenges. Political parties based on the national principle have reached their limit. That's why we founded Volt as the first pan-European party: to counter populist promises and provide a home for all Europeans. We strive to encourage people to join us in changing politics and unlocking Europe's untapped potential.

Volt was founded in 2017 as a response to the rise of populism and the far right. We are active at all levels of government and committed to winning seats and pushing for reform in the upcoming national, regional and local elections. Volt seeks to build a federal European democracy. In the future, the pan-European movement plans to take part in the European elections in all 27 member states and create the first truly pan-European political faction in the European Parliament by winning 25 seats from seven member states. It will do so with one jointly created election program in as many countries as possible, representing a truly unique and European approach to politics that has never been attempted before!

We are already active in more than 30 countries, encouraging citizens to rethink and shape policy in their cities, countries and across European borders.

We are pan-European, pragmatic and progressive. Although we strive to promote diversity, we are united by our shared goals and values. We ask the necessary questions and present realistic proposals for solving pan-European challenges.

To date, more than 130 Voltaires have been elected at the municipal, regional, national and European levels. We set an example of how it is possible to build a united, federal Europe.
